Ted Backes, The Director of Cognitive Training at Frankenberger Associates, has supervised the trainings of hundreds of individuals, using protocols that improve the full range of cognitive skills and abilities. He has worked with individuals from ages 8 to 80 and has created more than a dozen school based programs in well-known places such as The Greenwood School, Winchendon School, Oxford Academy, Cheshire Academy, Wolf School and Thames Academy. He entered the field of applied neuro-science in 2012 based on a life changing and personal experience with brain training and its healing and restorative effects.
Ted has developed unique approaches to training that support motivation, effort and ultimately results, using techniques and strategies that he has devised. In addition, he has developed relationships with top neuroscientists and key innovators in the field of applied neuroscience. He has a deep passion for helping people realize their full potentials and places great value on the personal relationships that he creates with his students and clients through and beyond the training experience. At The Greenwood School, Ted served as both the Director of Cognitive Training and the Director of Admissions. During this time, he created a partnership with the Carroll School that brought Targeted Cognitive Intervention, a cutting edge program where students strengthen and improve the brain networks that support reading, to Greenwood.
He also has close ties with San Francisco based Stronger Brains, another ground breaking company that offers a cognitive training platform that supports basic brain health, cognitive skills and emotional regulation in school age students. At Frankenberger Associates, he is honored to be the first to offer a clinical model of Stronger Brains to individuals and small groups of clients. Ted’s greatest joy is being part of the growth and confidence that his clients achieve. Success is the biggest motivator. Ted is a graduate of Choate School and the Boston University School of Management. Prior to his work in the field of education, he spent more than 25 years in business management and consulting, using information to drive performance and results. Beyond Frankenberger Associates, Ted has a great love of the outdoors. He is an avid cyclist, hiker, fisherman, boater and gardener. He is a voracious reader with a keen interest in the cognitive and social emotional health of children, adolescents and adults. He lives and works in Branford, CT. along with his wife, Caryl Frankenberger, a well-known educational diagnostician, and his dog Macy, a 12lb. Jackapoo. They have two sons, Ben, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in addiction and Cam, the CEO of Stronger Brains, a technology company that provides cognitive assessment and remediation supporting brain health in school age children.
