Making Friends

Course Overview

Many children struggle to build friendships not because they don’t want them—but because they’re unsure how to start, maintain, and navigate social connections.

“Making Friends” is designed to help parents teach their child the key skills needed for relationship building, including how to initiate interactions, engage in back-and-forth conversation, and develop meaningful peer connections. Instead of feeling stuck, left out, or unsure what to do, your child will begin to approach social situations with greater confidence and clarity.

This course breaks down complex social skills into simple, practical strategies you can use in everyday situations—at home, in school, and in the community—so your child can build and maintain stronger, more meaningful relationships.

What Your Child Will Learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to help your child:

1. Initiate Social Interactions
Teach your child how to approach peers, start conversations, and enter social situations with more confidence.

2. Build Back-and-Forth Conversations
Help your child develop reciprocity by asking questions, listening, and responding in a way that keeps interactions going.

3. Develop Stronger Social Connections
Support your child in identifying shared interests, building common ground, and forming more meaningful peer relationships.

4. Maintain and Navigate Friendships
Guide your child in handling common social challenges like turn-taking, flexibility, and managing small conflicts.

This course was exactly what I needed to feel more confident in my role as Director of Academic Support. The modules were comprehensive and practical with supporting materials to reinforce the topics. The fact that I can continue to access the videos and readings upon completing the course has been a fantastic resource for me. All educators would benefit from this course.

Understanding Diverse Learning Profiles is a wonderful study of student learning profiles, misconceptions, types of assessments to determine how students learn, reading psychoeducational testing reports, and classroom supports. It is a course that brings together the needs and perspectives of the admission team, classroom educators, and learning support professionals to create a stronger student success model. As a veteran admission professional, it provided me with insight to better understand the needs of our applicants and students. I am much more confident in my ability to read and understand testing reports and how a learning profile may present in the classroom....

I loved this course and wish everyone at Middlebridge could take it. For folks entering into the profession or looking to have an update on learning challenges, the videos and supplementary readings were on point. I loved the processing speed and working memory videos as so often people do not realize how this impacts the learner. The EF video was excellent and tangible as was the strategies for teachers. It is very rare when you have a PD with actual strategies offered. I loved the evaluation section and questions to be posed by admissions professionals and teachers in the classroom...

I have had the pleasure of learning from Caryl Frankenberger for almost fifteen years, witnessing firsthand her expertise and unwavering commitment to neurodiverse learners. Caryl has the ability to make complex concepts about learning and cognitive development accessible—a skill I first observed in 2010 during one of her presentations, where she captivated a packed auditorium of educators with ease. Her work has left a lasting impact on me and countless others, empowering students, families, and professionals with the tools and understanding they need to thrive in their strengths.

I am thrilled to share my experience after receiving my certificate from Frankenberger Associates in Understanding Diverse Learning Profiles. This course has truly transformed my approach to working with prospective and current families, as well as lower and middle school faculty, learning support staff, and administration. The valuable tools and insights I gained have deepened my understanding of diverse learning profiles, allowing me to speak confidently and knowledgeably about my candidates. This has fostered trust and collaboration within our community, making a significant impact on our partnerships. I wholeheartedly recommend this course to admission professionals and anyone involved in supporting students....

This 6-module online course is the best training I have ever participated in. As an IEC who provides high school and college consulting for students who have specific learning, cognitive and/or developmental challenges, the course deepened my understanding of learning challenges, and my ability to read and interpret evaluations. I developed new questioning techniques to discern my students’ learning strengths, average abilities, and challenges, and I watched the videos and read the supplemental articles on my own timeline, there was no pressure. Quite simply, this course was a game changer for me, and I think it will be the same...

I am so happy I took the 6 module Understanding Diverse Learning Profile course. I am an Executive Assistant working at Frankenberger Associates and I wanted to take the course to better understand FA’s services. The course was outstanding. From the perspective of someone who is a parent, and not an educator, I gained an enormous amount of knowledge about executive functioning, social skills, evaluation and brain training. I learned about the intricacies of understanding student learning profiles and I loved the videos about working memory, processing speed, ADHD and Dyslexia. Learning about the brain was fascinating and I left...

Eagle Hill School and I personally have worked with Frankenberger Associates for over twenty years, and I have enjoyed and benefited greatly from our incredibly long and strong relationship. Caryl Frankenberger is a trusted and knowledgeable colleague and friend. Many years ago, Caryl gave a presentation to the EHS faculty on cognitive testing, and to this day, I am grateful to Caryl for this presentation. I have worked with Caryl and have likely read more than 100 of her evaluations in considering her clients for EHS. Caryl’s evaluations are well-written and help the reader to get...
