This workshop helps students complete their assigned reading with structure, accountability, and support—so summer reading doesn’t turn into a source of stress at home.
Summer Reading Lab is designed for students who struggle to get started, stay consistent, or feel confident engaging with assigned texts. The workshop meets twice a week for four weeks in a small-group virtual format. Sessions combine direct instruction, guided practice, discussion, and built-in accountability. One session each week focuses on strategy instruction, planning, and reflection. The second session includes a shorter check-in and an optional supported reading block to help students follow through on their plans.
Students work with their own assigned texts and use shared tools such as reading logs, goal trackers, and journals to support consistency. The emphasis is on progress, honest self-reflection, and finding strategies that work for each individual student.
By the end of the workshop, students are not only closer to completing their summer reading, but better equipped with skills they can use in English classes, content-area reading, and independent work throughout the school year.
